We carp about parietals. We bemoan the limited quantities of food at senior week events. We grumble about the computer clusters and OIT. We even protest the placement of cheese in the dining hall.

If a scriptwriter came to Notre Dame on the wrong day, he'd have the title of a blockbuster movie in mind: "The Great Complainers.

They prefer to call it the "Weightless Wonder" because the "Vomit Comet" gives it bad connotations. Whatever you call it, a group of University of Cincinnati aerospace engineering students were on board testing a docking station for NASA's mini AERCam.

The secret handshake

The Observer, University of Notre Dame, IN

I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

I applied to Notre Dame on a whim, intrigued by a couple youth group friends' near-devotional tones when I said I didn't see myself at a "big Midwestern football school."

("But it's Notre Dame!" said one twin.

It's still Notre Dame to me

The Observer, University of Notre Dame, IN

Notre Dame is a great place. It's a place where mentally and/or athletically and/or parentally gifted high school grads can learn and grow a lot in four short years. Less interestingly, it's a place where I learned and grew a lot in four short years.

The Harley factor

Royal Purple, University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, WI

I asked myself the other day, why don't more kids my age own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle? Are they just too expensive? Does nobody my age know where to buy one? Or do people just stereotype them as being an older generation bike?

4 days ago by Ryan Schleicher, '09

Growing demand for energy and concerns over climate change has led many to return to nuclear power as part of a nation's strategy for diversified, clean energy. There are many lingering concerns about nuclear power; some may be justified, some may not. I interviewed Alan Mawdsley of Bechtel Enterprises to find out more about the industry and its future prospects.

The Omnibus, Southwest Baptist University, MO

To honor those who serve, I decided to interview two graduating veterans: seniors David VanBebber and Benjamin Stephens.

First interview: David VanBebber.

What led you to join the service?

"It is something that I always wanted to do but put off doing. I thought it was a shame that I was so able to serve and didn't.
