Singing, acting, comedy: Bernadette Peters does them all with style.

The two-time Tony award-winning Broadway star with the signature long curly red locks, big soulful eyes and knockout figure has been melting hearts for years, while wowing audiences with her bold, brilliant voice and well-tuned sense of comic delivery. Bernadette Peters really is the whole package in entertainment.

Legendary star of stage and screen Bernadette Peters will grace the Touhill stage, Saturday, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m.

The Broadway babe sings the songs that made her famous, including Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Weber, backed by a 35-piece orchestra. Jim Richards, UM-St. Louis music professor, will be the concertmaster for the show.

Peters' voice still knocks audiences over, despite her impressive résumé of Broadway hits and long career, starting at an early age.

Her Broadway works includes Tony awards for best actress in a musical for "Song and Dance" and "Annie Get Your Gun," Tony award nominations for "On the Town," "Mack and Mabel," "Sunday in the Park with George," "The Goodbye Girl" and "Gypsy."

The five-foot-three dynamo is also the youngest performer to be inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame.

Peters' work also includes film and TV. She won a Golden Globe award for best actress for "Pennies from Heaven" and starred with Steve Martin in "The Jerk." She also appeared in "Impromptu" with Hugh Grant, Judi Davis and Mandy Patinkin.

More recently, she has appeared on "Boston Legal," "Law and Order: SVU" and "Will and Grace."

For Broadway or musicals fans, this concert is a must-see. Even if you, like me, are not a Broadway buff, Bernadette Peters' sweet and sultry singing and comic touches are wonderful entertainment.

For those who have never heard her sing, audiences should treat themselves and give a listen. Part of what makes Peters such a delight is her sly sense of humor and her ability as an actress helps her really "sell" a song.

Anyone who is not familiar with her skills as a songbird can hear a little sample of her ability by checking out her website at http://www.bernadettepeters.com/index_fla.htm.

Tickets to the Bernadette Peters concert range from $37 to $56 for UM-St. Louis students, $45 to $75 for others. For more information or to buy tickets, contact the Touhill at 314-516-4949.
