In the premiere of its 5th season, TV's "Grey's Anatomy" continues the storyline left hanging in the finale last May. If you have not seen the episode and want to be surprised, be warned there may be spoilers here and you may want to skip the next paragraph.
Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) inspire the fairytale themed episode by questioning the desired "happily ever after" ending.
Cristina (Sandra Oh), who got her groove back last season, shows interest in a rebellious military doctor; while, Erica (Brooke Smith) and Callie (Sara Ramirez), blinded by the awkwardness of their relationship, hide their curiosity in each other.
Lexi (Chyler Leigh), smitten with George (T.R. Knight), discovers that he does not feel the same way. Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and Alex (Justin Chambers) hit a bump in the road with their re-kindled relationship, again.
Finally, Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) gets fed up with the surgical staff when Seattle Grace drops its rank and becomes a level #2 trauma hospital, which is the reason why this episode has a lack of trauma patients.
Fans of the show will be left satisfied but not dazzled. Sure, important questions are answered but this episode does not meet the action seen in the 4th season's finale.
Bernadette Peters guest stars and adds to the themed episode by arriving, along with her friends, in a ball gown. However, they are the only patients treated in the episode, which is a clever subplot but not up to par with the usual diversity seen in the show.
The show, dubbed "ER" meets "General Hospital," is chock full of drama but fans will be surprised to see that Alex is this episode's biggest drama queen and perhaps the episode's villain (wait until the end). Derek ends things with Rose (Lauren Stamile) and she departs to the pediatric wing, which gives the green light to his relationship with Meredith.
