How do you define yourself through clothes?

Personal style. It is just that, personal.
Now, I am a big fan of the statement "to each their own," both because of how broad it is and how right it is.
Each person dresses how they want and that is a great way to expand the minds of others, but at times, I just wish I could put my blinders on.
I started my educational life going to an intense grade school and was allowed to wear whatever I wanted, as long as when I came down the stairs in the morning I did not embarrass myself too much.
I personally do not remember this outfit, but according to my parents my favorite pants were a pair of Little Mermaid Spandex and I assume, I paired those with just about any top I had.
For middle school and high school, I had the easiest time, I wore a uniform. It was amazing!
Every day, all I had to do was throw that uniform on, put my hair up and go: it was the easiest six years of my life, clothing-choice wise. Then it was time to go to college.
For the first days I was totally blindsided, but eventually I got used to actually choosing my clothes for class again.
I bet that sounds completely ludicrous to think anyone could have trouble choosing what to wear just to sit in a room and listen, but it was.
I would think: I do not want to stand out and I do not want my professors to think I do not give a darn how I look, but in all of that time I was learning to reinvent myself.
As you read this, I hope you are not thinking this girl is insane. I promise I am not.
I would say that just as much as I love fashion, I am also scared of it. My PJs are all I wear on the weekends unless I go out.
It can be exhausting at times to put together an outfit even though it really is fun.
Combining colors and textures and showing who you are through your clothes is always a chance to try something new. Taking chances is how many people develop or change their personal styles.
It is always fun to look at the high fashion magazines and see what is new, but like many other girls these days it is hard to picture those clothes on myself. Wearing things that are crafted for a specific body form and type tend to look very different on a "normal" body.
Yet, borrowing other people's ideas is such fun! One of my friends decided she wanted to become more "rocker". I still think she is posing, but it was interesting to see the change.
When I first met her in ninth grade it was all run of the mill clothes and nothing that really differentiated her from others. In the following years, she started to dress more punk. Since defining her style, I am understanding what makes her so unique and she has a new attitude she takes with her out into the world.
